  • What services does Reach Resource Services provide?

Reach Resource Services provides four types of services for homeless teens and at-risk youth. Our services provide crisis intervention, individual and family counseling, voluntary shelter, and family reunification. Read more about our four main service offerings below.

Traverse Place is a 21-month program for young adults ages 16-21. Traverse Place offers safe and stable housing and assists youth in exploring housing options, employment support, educational pursuits, referrals for medical and mental health treatment, counseling to reduce substance abuse, and developing life skills to become independent and self-sufficient. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, mental health problems are reported in 69% of homeless youth. Our goal is to ensure the youth have access to treatment resources if needed.

Street Outreach offers services to individuals or families of any age youth who are experiencing homelessness, lack stable housing, and/or are at imminent risk of becoming homeless. Street Outreach offers direct referrals to local resources and can also provide basic needs services for persons on the streets, such as water, non-perishable food items, personal hygiene items, bus passes, laundry cards, and clothing.

Rapid Rehousing is designed to provide housing to youth between the ages of 18 and 25 and their minor children who identify as homeless for up to one year. Staff support the youth through case management in obtaining housing, landlord-tenant relationships, housing retention, referrals to local health and child care, and employment support. The youth participant becomes the leaseholder of the housing they acquire.

  • What are the shelters like?

Traverse Place and REACH are located in the downtown Flint community. Our properties are older, large homes that have been well maintained with private and shared bedroom spaces, community spaces, and offices for case management and counseling services for homeless teens and youth. Please contact us today to learn more about our runaway shelter services.

  • Do I have to pay to stay at the programs?

Our services for homeless teens and at-risk youth are offered at no cost to the youth, adult, or family. Our runaway shelter facilities and services are funded through government grants, donations, and charitable organizations to ensure that individuals in crisis can access services without financial barriers. Contact Reach Resource Services today to get started on a new program.

  • How long can I receive services?

Each service and runaway shelter differs.

REACH offers shelter for 21 days, outpatient counseling for up to 90 days, and aftercare for up to 6 months.

Traverse Place offers shelter for homeless teens for 21 months. Ongoing aftercare is available for an amount of time negotiated between the youth and their case manager.

Rapid Rehousing provides longer-term support with rental assistance for up to one year. The goal is to help individuals stabilize their situations and make a safe transition to a more permanent living arrangement.

Street Outreach services are available without any barriers to the duration of care.

Yes, ensuring the safety of residents is a top priority. Reach Resource Services employs trained staff to create a secure and supportive environment in our runaway shelter facilities and on the streets. Get in touch with us today for more information on our services for homeless teens and at-risk youth.

  • What happens after I leave Reach Resource Services?

After someone leaves Reach Resource Services, aftercare is available to them upon request at any time. We provide specialized services in our programs to ensure residents receive the help they need. No youth, adult, or family is ever turned away from receiving support. Making a phone call, dropping by to see the staff, and/ or reaching out to the case manager who provided care is the most immediate way to explore further help. The ability to return to a runaway shelter is determined on a case-by-case basis. Contact us today if you need aftercare services or support.

  • Is there a geographic restriction to receiving services?

No, there are no geographic restrictions. Our programs are designed to serve those in need, regardless of where they reside. However, the programs focus on supporting people in the Genesee, Lapeer, and Shiawassee Counties. The shelters are located in the City of Flint and can only be accessed there, but Rapid Rehousing options can be anywhere throughout Genesee County.
